All-City Modern Music Project Updates & New initiative – Master Session Labs!

Mr. Harold Stephan shares that the weekend before recess, students were treated to a Q&A by SONY Music Publishing A&R Executive Simone Dixon. Ms. Dixon grew up in Harlem and is a proud product of the NYC Public School System and an alumna of Lehman College, CUNY. Ms. Dixon was joined by Songwriters Hall of Fame Marketing and Communications Director April Anderson, who is also the Chairperson of the NY Education Committee.

On March 4th Stuy will debut a new Songwriters Hall of Fame initiative entitled Master Session Labs. Our first guest will be producer/songwriter Alex da Kid, the mastermind behind many hits including Dr. Dre ("I Need a Doctor"), Nicki Minaj ("Massive Attack"), B.o.B ("Airplanes" featuring Hayley Williams), Eminem ("Love the Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna), Diddy ("Coming Home" with Dirty Money featuring Skylar Grey), Imagine Dragons ("Radioactive") and Cheryl ("Under The Sun"). The session will be videotaped and shared on the SHOF YouTube Channel.

On April 22nd, Stuy alumnus Ray Palagy will be our guest speaker. Mr. Palagy is a Post-Production Sound Designer at ESPN and graduated from Stuyvesant back in 1980!!! He read about the Media Lab in the Stuy Alumni newsletter, and we connected via social media. Mr. Palagy and I have many mutual colleagues in the music industry. Mr. Stephan and all the students are looking forward to having him share his experiences.
