Our seniors will soon hear back from the colleges and universities to which they applied this fall. As you can imagine, this can be a very emotional time for these students and their families...and after the Varsity Blues admissions scandal and massive application surges seen at the most selective colleges this cyle, many families probably aren’t feeling great about the whole college admissions process right now.
The article below was written about a decade ago by a good friend and colleague, but we continue to share it each year as it remains a fantastic piece to read for families steeped in the admissions process...particularly those seniors awaiting responses from their schools. For younger students and their families, it does a wonderful job of articulating the complexity of the admissions process, the human elements behind it, and, most importantly, the underlying truth that whether or not your dream college admits you is not a reflection of your worth. Similarly, you may have heard us recommend the book Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be by Frank Bruni. We often use that slogan when presenting or talking to famlies. If you haven't read it, it isn't too late :)
Seniors, please remember that you are all here at Stuyvesant because you are incredibly talented; you are going to be able to use those talents to achieve your personal and professional goals no matter where you go to college so long as you fully engage yourself in your college experience.
