Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter announced the results of the Citywide and Community Education Council (CCEC) Elections. See the full press release for details.
We broke two important records this year. A record-breaking, 1,785 parents ran for an Education Council seat this year. And, 21,953 parents exercised their newly earned right to vote, breaking the record for highest CEC vote count in DOE history! 99% of the Education Council seats are filled with 100% of our IEP seats filled and 88% of the ELL seats filled (up 35% from last election).
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this historic event, from the record number of parents who applied and voted, to the thousands of people who attended the forums and scoured the website, and to DOE and community based organizations who worked to get out the vote.
A special thanks to the candidates for running a great race - during a pandemic and in the most competitive CCEC election in DOE history! Whether or not you were elected this cycle, there is a seat at the table for every parent who wants to support and lead in DOE. As a reminder, Education Councils include members appointed by the Borough President and Public Advocate, and parents can submit appointee applications. We also encourage everyone to participate in the school's PA/PTA.
